Black just had too many weapons for Grey to shut down. Perhaps if the mad captain was there for grey, things would have been different. Who knows but, in any event, it was a well-played, good-spirited game and both teams should be proud for a job well done. Here are the scores from Saturday: Round 1 - Green 13 White 8 Grey 13 Purple 12 - Grey came back from a 12-9 deficit to pull this game out. Key Lime 13 Navy 7 Black 13 Royal 10 Round 2 - Grey 13 White 4 Purple 13 Green 4 Black 13 Navy 5 Key Lime 13 Royal 8 Round 3 - Purple 13 White 3 Navy 13 Royal 11 Grey 13 Green 6 Black 13 Key lime 9 (??) Awards - The Toby Award goes to the player who best exemplifies what we as a league are striving for, namely, superior play, excellent spirit, good leadership, and just an all-around good guy. Male Toby Award - The nominees for men were Justin Safdie of Black, matt Kromer of Green, Scott Wiant of Royal, Dan Cogan of White, Mike Lee of Key Lime, Mike Dussault of Grey, and Ben Reardon of Purple. The winner in a very close vote (captains voted for all of the awards) was Matt "the self-proclaimed man" Kromer. Kromer always played hard, always played well, always did a good job with his team, always played with good spirit, and always had that goofy smile on his face :} Female Toby Award - The nominees were Liz Willets of Grey, Betsy Stubblefield of White, Thea Drew of Key Lime, Fuyuki Hirashima of Black, Megan Owen of Green, and June Park of Royal. And the winner was Fuyuki. For those that don't know her, she was the woman with the funny looking flick which is deadly accurate. She was a big reason why Black won the championship. Most Improved Guy - The nominees were Edrick Chiang of White, Corey Byrum of Navy, Colin Smith of Royal, Greg Getchell of Key Lime, Seth Weitberg of Grey, Allen Lee of Purple, Rob hancock of Green, and Tim Baldwin of Black. And the winner was Seth "I learned everything I need to know in life from the Zeekster and the back of a Harpoon bottle" Weitberg of Grey. Seth's play improved by leaps and bounds this year, he's a really good kid, and he absolutely loves playing RIPUL. Good luck in the fall at Duke University (Coach K gave him a scholarship). Most Improved Woman - the nominees were Tamar Gubins of key lime, megan nolan of grey, Cal Broccoli of Black, Stephanie Kissam of White, Mary Huber of Royal, and Andrea Castenada of Purple. And the winner was Andrea Casteneda of Purple who I was told never picked up a disc before the summer began and by the time saturday rolled around, she was a big factor out there always running hard, and playing good D and O. Congratulations Andrea. LOST & FOUND - I found what looks like a woman's watch on the field for the Finals. Also, Tom Delucca (thomasdeluca@earthlink.net) is looking for his folding chair and its carrying case. It is a blue heavy duty nylon collapsible chair with a black frame. Tom also left his gold rimmed Ray Ban sunglasses in the back pouch of the chair. Brian Sauro of Black (brianx@capecod.net) is looking for his disc from the Moses Brown tenniscourt field on Wednesday, July 21 (at least I could not find it after our game vs. Royal). It's a white Rochester Erogenous Zones disc w/ "BRI-WHUF" written on the back. It also said "do not steal." HAT LEAGUE - SHOW UP TONITE at 6:00 at MOSES BROWN. Scotty has made 4 teams. Everybody bring a white and a dark shirt please. We will hopefully play the next 3 weeks on Monday and Wednesday. After that, we will continue to have pickup somewhere probably Marvel Gym. I will let people know. Also, FYI, there is a beach ultimate game going on every Thursday at 6 at Scarborough Beach down in Narragansett. Any ?s, contact ericweis@brainiac.com FEEDBACK - Now is as good a time as any for feedback both positive and negative. So let me know what you liked and what you didnt like about summer league. Hope everybody enjoyed the 1999 RIPUL season. Big thanks to all the captains who were absolutely marvelous, Loring Holden for running the web page (http://www.cs.brown.edu/~lsh/ripul/), Chad Johnson for designing the t-shirts, Scott Mathieu for dealing with t-shirts and the schedule, Bill Binder for getting us the Moses Brown and Brown fields, and Dave Toohey who did a great job serving up a delicious bbq during the finals on Saturday. And, last but certainly not least, big group hug for all of you guys who have helped make this season our best ever in terms of good play and even better spirit. that's all from me...c ya all on the fields. mjb
