Monday: FOREST 17 KIWI 7 I don't remember much: Kiwi began the game low on players and quickly fell behind. By half Forest was ahead 9-2 I believe. The second half was better for KIWI as the late arrivals helped but they were unable to catch up. The game was highlighted with Vet receiving some sort of hipcheck/body slam. Very funny. Wednesday: FOREST 17 ORANGE 14 FOREST begin the game in control and pulled ahead 5-1, forcing ORANGE to call a time-out. The timeout worked to regroup ORANGE and they almost were able to make up their deficit by half and went into the break down 9-7. With greater numbers, ORANGE was determined to outrun FOREST in the second half as FOREST only had three subs. Their plan worked as they were able to catch up and take their first lead of the game 14-13. But FOREST had some legs left and fought back to take the game 17-14. Overall this very well played and fast paced game had lots of great D and great side to side movement of the disc by both teams. -----Original Message----- From: Mjbdisc@aol.com [mailto:Mjbdisc@aol.com] Sent: Friday, June 21, 2002 12:43 PM To: Mjbdisc@aol.com Subject: RIPUL - June 21 People: Happy Summer Solstice. BLACK - Soccer Field near Woods GAMES ON MONDAY JUNE 17: Burgundy 17 Black 13 Black was ahead 7-4 but Burgundy took half and never looked back, despite Black pulling to within 1 on two occasions but failed to win the all-important hell points. Burgundy hucked alot to streaking players. White: 17 Purple: 13 or 14 (by Andre from White) This game happened three days ago, so I've already forgotten many details. Here are the highlights I remember: + There were lots of issues with trying to find a field since the Brown fields were overrun by pint size lacrosse players. We finally set up in the outfield of the Brown baseball field. I think the odd orientation threw everyone off a little bit, but at least it was nicely groomed. Other than the time when Justin fell into the pit of tires and wood over by the left field foul line (what the heck was that stuff doing there?!), the game went off without a hitch. + First half: I think both teams were trying to find themselves. Both were missing some key players. I remember purple getting some nice handling from Jeff and Mike. White started out really cold, but found some rhythm about half way through and took half---can't remember the score though.... 9-6 maybe? + Second half: I actually remember a highlight from the second half. Kira Lawrence from White was making a swing pass and Jeff Baer from Purple read it well and layed out to make a point block. Unfortunately, the disc wasn't quite where Jeff expected and he took it quite solidly on the forehead. Seriously, you could hear the knock from a pretty good distance. Still... impressive D. Overall, the quality of play in the second half was much better. White got their act together, and despite Purple pulling within a point or so, finally won the game by 3 or 4 points. I can't remember who scored the winning point, but good job whoever it was. + Purple definitely came up with the better cheer. Something based on hickory dickory dock.... it wasn't outstanding or anything, but White's was so pitiful, that the folks on Purple looked like geniuses. We were totally stuck, so we fell back on the old reliable haiku format. But we couldn't even manage that so we just wrote down 5 words and said them in an artsy fashion while snapping our fingers. (The snapping was probably supposed to distract everyone -- including the White team -- from the lameness and brevity of their performance. I doubt it was very convincing though.) ==================================================== Wednesday, June 19: Purple 17 Burgundy 12 (Captain Karl of Burgundy reports) burgundy lost to purple 12-17 in a well played game by both teams. Burgundy came out strong scoring a few points in a row including a callahan (a callahan goal is when a defensive player catches a pass in the offensive team's endzone). Shortly thereafter purple went on a run to solidify a 2 point lead. The rest of the game was basically trading points until mid second half when purple widened the gap. White: 17 Black: 15 (by Andre from White) No field problems this time. The surface was perfect and we had lines and everything. The first half opened with teams exchanging points up until 4 all. White went on a 5 point run to take the half 9-4. Kira Lawrence was definitely the hero of the White team in the first half, making in some great catches for scores and being her usual solid self on defense. Captain Jeff "Fly" Fleischaker was more than happy to send the disc to anyone cutting deep, and he spread the wealth amongst several members of the white team. Black definitely turned it on in the second half, playing tight defense, frustrating White, and converting quite efficiently on turn overs. Fortunately, Dr. Bill Binder and Adele Pascale arrived help keep White fresh. Black eventually got to within 1 point at 16-15. Along the way there were some great catches by Ben Z and Flip and some nice puts by various members of the Black team. The solid play from Black resulted in some very sweaty palms on the White team -- we were playing very tight. Things were very intense, and at 16-15, we played what had to be the longest (and sloppiest) point of our short season. Play went back and forth, both teams dropping the disc in the end zone, arguing over line calls, and running around like crazy trying to prevent the opponents from scoring. Finally, Bobbers on White cut to the near cone and caught a floaty forehand for the game winner. There were better cheers this time from both teams, providing a pretty good ending to a pretty exciting game. ------_=_NextPart_001_01C21949.32E83160 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1"
