Keep a snapshot in your head of how well you played individually and how your team performed as a group and contrast that with how well you and your team are playing by the end of the season. The difference should be remarkable IF you put in the time and effort to improve. Practice throwing the disc from different angles, use different grips to see what works best for you, check out web sites like www.ultimatehandbook.com for tips and to read the rules. Wednesday Schedule: (1) Purple v. (3) Orange - Moses Brown Tennis Courts (2) Denim v. (4) Burgundy - Brown Softball (5) White v. (7) Green - Wheeler Baseball Diamond (closest to road) (6) Jade v. (8) Black - Wheeler Baseball Diamond (closest to woods) Bring plenty of water, its supposed to get up to 90 degrees tomorrow. Also, for those playing at Wheeler tomorrow, its quicker to park in the Field House lot. Go all the way to the end of Walker Road, take a Left and take a Left at the Fieldhouse, there is a big lot for all to park that is closer to the baseball diamond. Games last night: (2) Denim 17 (1) Purple 11 Denim jumped out to a 9-4 lead at half but Purple rebounded and played a spirited 2nd half. They are young and fast and will get better as the season progresses under the leadership of Matt and Pauline. Denim lead by Captains Scott and June looked strong with an excellent mix of young legs and experience that should serve them well. Andy Lipsky scored a bunch of goals for Denim. Nick Doollitle of Purple skied the Air Traffic Controller for an exciting score. (3) Orange 17 (4) Burgundy 16 In a highly-contested close game throughout, Burgundy rallied from 16-13 to tie the game up, next point wins. Burgundy got the D but was unable to convert. An interesting throw from Steve Votruba to Captain Flip opened up the field. Captain Flip then threw to Captain RV for the winning score. The veteran crew of Dr. Bill Brown and Chris Brady stepped it up for Burgundy. Orange has a very strong core of experienced players which will make them a tough opponent to beat this season. Burgundy lead by Captain Dave Rosenberg also looked very competitive. Nice game guys. (7) Green 17 v. (8) Black 14 Per Captain Scott Wiant of Green we get these detailed notes: Green won 17-14 Spirited trumpet playing by Colin Smith was the major event of note. (note, trumpet, ha ha) (5) White 17 (6) Jade 8 (i think) Per Captain Chia of White: A well played game against last years superstar captain of the last years Champion Purple team, Fred, who now is captain of JADE....Jade took an early lead 3-1, but White regrouped and poured it on till half with a 9-4 advantage. Jade playing with only one sub fought hard but White was able to pull together and made a great defensive stands. Newcomers to ultimate on both teams played excellent as it appears that the level of play will be even higher this year...notable great D and layouts were from Cass Sapir (a great layout D....that was a Mac for a score.oops!) and Jeff Fleischaker of the White Team, also great ups from Jeremy Katzen for a score(JADE Team), Should be a Great season for both teams...as the score does not indicate Jade potential (especially with Fred "George Steinbrenner" Orwiller at the helm; they were also missing 2 of their strongest men and Captain Karen) I welcome anybody to send me in game writeups. Just get them to me by the morning after the game and I will run them. Lastly, Party Chairman Dave Rosenberg gave Orange the best showing at Oliver's last night. Personally, I beg to differ, I thought all the teams had excellent representation. And, the only reason Dave chose Orange is because their team lacks proper hygeine and didn't change their shirts. We must have had at least 50 people out which was great to see. Tomorrow night is $1 Rolling Rocks. matty
