Semifinals took place last night. Purple took on White on the tennis court
field. Like Monday, when Toohey the captain of Straw could not play, Captain
Cogan of White unfortunately did not play either because of a bad hamstring.

Undaunted, White, lead by Matt Kromer, Scott Rim, and Jason Hakes, came out
all pumped up and ready to huck against Purple. Purple was burnt a few times
early by discs sailing over the heads of its defenders and landing in the
hands of a white player for a score. White hung tough early but after a bit
of butt-kicking by yours truly, Purple woke up and started getting their
offense in gear. Fortunat had a couple of beautiful hucks to Tom Grady, as
well as to Flip. This was a good thing because Purple, like White, had
difficulty controlling the disc enough to work it in for a score. Purple took
half at 9-5.

In the second half, Purple received but White was able to stuff and score.
The teams traded points for a bit and White was able to work it back to 14-11.
White's main players seemed a bit tired and thus their offense often
disintegrated into throwing up deep passes. Some were completed but most were
not. Fortunat was an absolute stud on the defensive side making numerous
defensive blocks. Tom Grady also played excellent defense even though he was
usually lined up against 1 of White's top handlers.

At 14-11, I turned the disc over 3 times myself. I decided if we got the disc
back, I would just run long so I wouldnt be able to turn it over again. On the
turnover, Flip threw me a beautiful forehand up the sideline for the score and
Purple was able to finish off the game with a closer than it sounds 17-11
victory.

Kudos go out to both teams for playing a relatively well-played, good-spirited
game. White could have easily laid over with their best player on the sideline
but they showed alot of heart, determination, and some good disc skills to
make it a very competitive game. Great season White team!!!

Over on the lacrosse field, grey took on the red team. Grey jumped out to an
early lead on Red but Red was able to regroup and take half at 9-7 I believe.
In the 2nd half, Red's fierce man-to-man defense was too much for Grey to
overcome. Despite Scotty M. being en fuego, Grey was unable to overcome the
athleticism of Red and lost 16-13. Tough luck Grey and congratulations Red.

This sets up the Finals between the top 2 regular season teams Red and Purple.
Purple easily beat Red earlier in the year but that was without a couple of
key Red players playing.

Finals will be on the tennis court field. PLAY WILL BEGIN BY NO LATER THAN
6:20 PM so we can finish the game in daylight and get over to the PARTY.

The Party, as i mentioned on Monday, will be at 442 Brook Street, literally a
stone throw away from Moses Brown. Our hosts will be Pranay, Ben Reardon,
Matt Kromer, Dave Poznick, Jana Z., Jon LaRossa, and Dan Goldwater so don't
trash their house. Parking is tight there so people should plan on leaving
their cars at Moses Brown and just walking over there. It's literally a 2
minute walk.

We are going to have a big barbecue of hamburger, hotdogs, veggie burgers, and
assorted side dishes like pasta salad and the like. We will have beer
(PLEASE, PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY AND NO DRINKING AND DRIVING) as well as
other refreshments. We will have the awards ceremony also. Everybody is
invited so hopefully we will see you all at the Finals and the Party.

As far as disc after this Monday, we will continue playing pickup on Monday
and wednesday nights at 6:00 PM. We will play either at Hope High or Marvel
Gym. More details to come.

For those interested in playing competitively, you should speak to me or, if
you are a woman, speak to Cynthia of the White team who runs Venus Envy. Her
e mail address is csuchman@gsosun1.gso.uri.edu.

Lastly, I made up some really nice Chowdahead t-shirts. They are $10 and they
will be available at the party if you want to purchase.

See y'all Monday. Have a great weekend!!!

matty
