A great opening night of action. Every game was very competitive which means
there will be no gimmes on the schedule this season. Before I give the
results, a couple of announcements:

1) There is still limited room for late signups for both men and women. If
you know anybody who is interested, have them contact me or just show up on
wednesday.

2) Somebody found an inhaler down on the Brown fields. I have it.

3) Great turnout last night after games at Oliver's....we had about 30 people
there....'twas nice to see and hopefully it will continue. don't be shy,
come on out for a drink and some food after the games and get to know
everybody.

4) Don't forget to bring water to your games

5) Discs are for sale....contact jon larosa at jlarosa@brown.edu or
jonlarosa@yahoo.com if interested.

6) Chowdafest '99 is taking place THIS WEEKEND June 26-27 at the Seekonk
Wheeler fields. 16 team coed tourney, sweet fields, party, camping, dinner,
breakfast. Mucho fun. DEFINITE NEED FOR FEMALE PICKUPS NO MATTER WHAT YOUR
EXPERIENCE LEVEL IS. Contact me if interested or just show up....directions
are below.
Guys are welcome to try to pickup but to be successful you are advised to
couple up with a woman in order to do so. You are all welcome to spectate.
There should be some exciting games on sunday afternoon.

7) WEDNESDAY JUNE 23rd GAMES:

Purple (1) vs. Royal (3) - Moses Brown Tennis Courts

Key Lime (2) vs. White (4) - Moses Brown Main Field

OPEN PICKUP FOR EVERYBODY ELSE ACROSS THE STREET AT BROWN

JUNE 21 Action:

Key Lime (2) 20 over Purple (1) 18

Purple came back from a 9-3 halftime deficit and a 11-5 deficit to lose a
nailbiter 20-18 to Key Lime. Well-played game.

White (4) 17 over Royal (3) 15

White jumped out to an early lead only to see Royal come right back and grab
a 9-7. Steve "Catfish" Canon was friggin' killing us inj the 1st half making
big plays. The triumvurate of Captain Fred, Nathan, Rich "Chia" Lucia, and
Scott Wiant were effective at converting white turnovers on their own goal
line into scores. White's 1st half woes continued in the second half and
before you know it royal was up 11-7 over white. White then decided to throw
a zone on royal who were obviously unprepared for this move. White mixed up
their person to person and zone defenses and charged back to grab a 12-11
lead. Nick Forget made a couple of key defensive plays for white and was
always the 1st person down on the pull for white. The score went back and
forth and it was tied at 15-15. The combination of Kyle Weisbrod to Captain
Cogan and vice-versa was particularly effective as Royal had nobody (no big
Jimmy last night for royal) on their team to match up with the Captain long.
White scored the last 2 points to win a relatively well-played,
highly-spirited and fun game 17 to 15.

Navy (5) 17 over Green (6) 14

Scotty's army lead by the flipper and scott martin was too much for matt
kromer and crew to overcome. green was without 1 of their best players but
still hung tough lead by captain kromer who my sources say was all over the
friggin field making plays. Captain Scotty also played out of his mind and
lead his team to a hard-fought victory.

Grey (8) 17 over Black (7) 13

Another close game, Black was without the services of its leader Captain
Safdie. Black though hung tough and played a very quick grey team tough.
captains "mad" dussault and dave "doughboy" rosenberg were too much for black
though.
