The Rhode Island Ultimate Player's Association, Inc. is pleased to announce that our 4th season of coed ultimate frisbee begins Monday, June 7th. Games will be held every Monday and Wednesday at Moses Brown School in Providence (corner of Hope St. and Lloyd Avenue) and at The Wheeler School fields in Seekonk, Mass. (a short 10-minute drive from the East Side).

The cost of the league will be $45.00. Sign-ups will be on a first-come, first served basis. In order to be included in the draft, you must:

• Complete the on-line application form
• Print out and sign the waiver
• Make out a check payable to RIUPA, INC. for $45
• Send the waiver and check to Matthew Brier as soon as possible at:

The draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 17th. However, if the league is filled (i.e. we have 128 people signed up and paid for) you will be placed on a waiting list with no guarantee that you will be able to play. So, don't wait until the last minute to sign up.

I want to explain why we are raising our rate from the $25.00 we charged last year. The following is an estimated budget of our expenses:

As you can see, our big cost is field rental. Although we could have obtained much cheaper fields from the City of Providence, as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. And we are getting some ‘sweet’ fields! In addition, as a condition of renting the Wheeler fields, we needed to purchase liability insurance to cover RIUPA, INC. in case somebody sues us.

Like last year, teams will play every other Wednesday, which will allow us to schedule ten (10) or eleven (11) games per team, plus playoffs where every team will play at least an additional two (2) games. All Wednesday games will be held at Moses Brown.

Pickup games will be held Monday, June 7th; Wednesday, June 9th; Monday, June 14th; and Wednesday, June 16th at Moses Brown. The 1st official league game will be held Monday, June 21st. Until June 7th, pickup will be every Monday at 6:00 PM at Marvel Gym or the JCC field, located right next to Marvel Gym. Playoffs will be held on Saturday, August 7th at The Wheeler Fields in Seekonk (all teams will qualify).

We often receive requests of people wanting to play with a friend/significant other. Feel free to make the request but be advised that we make no guarantees that we will honor it. Competitive balance takes precedence. Besides, Summer league is to meet new people.
