Couple of announcements:

* After the games we meet at Oliver's on Brook Street a short hop, skip, and
a jump from the fields. Turnout so far for the after-game party has been
light and so I want to encourage everybody to come out have a cold drink and
meet some of the people you just played with and against. Summer league is
about meeting new people and making new friends so dont be shy.

* Beach ultimate starts today and continues every Thursday all summer at
Scarborough Beach, Narragansett. Rt 95 south to Rt 4 south, merges with Rt
1 south, exit in Narragansett onto Rt 108 south, after a couple miles turn
left at a light onto Burnside Ave, then before driving into Narragansett
Bay, turn right onto Rt 1A. After maybe 200 yards, u-turn into the
Scarborough Beach parking lot. Starting 5:30 or 6. Pray for sun.
Questions should be directed to Paula (pperez@gso.uri.edu) or Eric
(ericweis@brainiac.com).

Last night saw a strong easterly wind hit RIPUL which made the games into an
upwind-downwind battle. On to the action:

White 17 Denim 12

(From Chia, the Captain of Denim)

Back and forth first half, Denim had a 8-6 lead, but White took half 9-8.
A couple of monster backhand hucks into a nasty wind from Olivier helped
White. Score was 13-12 White and they scored big to make it 14-12 and pulled
away and did not look back to win 17-12. Denim played especially tough D the
last 5 points but had troubles converting near White's goal line.

Pine 17 Purple 11

(From Eric Weis of Pine)

Strong defense from Dr. Bill Brown and solid offense from Vet and Lori
Parham allowed Pine to overcome the strong hucking and foot speed of team
purple. Purple captain Fred hurt his knee near the end of the first half,
hurting their chances. Play was solid all around despite the stiff breeze.

Black 17 Berry Red 8

Not too many details known. This game was never particularly close.

Gold 14 White 10

Gold received going downwind and promptly dropped an easy swing pass on their
goalline allowing Key Lime to punch in an upwind score. Key Lime then scored
downwind but Gold was able to respond with an upwind huck for the score to
Sarah with an H. The teams then traded points until Key Lime was able to
gain the break by a huck to Justin Lutes and then punching it in to make it
7-5. Gold called time to regroup and responded nicely scoring the last 4
points of the half highlighted by Matt Troup digging up a grass-burner for
the upwind score to take half 9-7. The teams traded points starting the
second half and the score was tied 10-10. Gold scored the upwinder to make
it 11-10. The point after was a hell point which must have lasted at least
15 minutes. Key Lime had a couple of chances where they were relatively
close to the goal line but Gold hung tough. Finally, Gold was mercifully
able to score and the cap was on, game to 14. Next point, Gold was able to
move the disc upfield several times and finally was able to punch it in with
a score from Eric McAndrew to myself. Next point was the hell point to end
hell points. This one must have lasted 20 minutes leaving both teams
exhausted. Gold scored to win 14-10.
