People:

1) No Games this Monday July 3rd. There will be pickup, however, at the
Moses Brown tennis courts field at 6:00 PM.

2) Games are supposed to start at 6:00, not 6:30. As the season progresses,
it will keep getting dark earlier and earlier, making it even more imperative
to start on time. Everybody should be showing up at 5:45 ready to play by
6:00.

3) Next Wednesday July 5th and the following Monday July 10th, there will be
no games at Brown. We will have 3 games at Wheeler Farm in Seekonk and 1
game at Moses Brown both nights. There are no games on Wednesday July 12th
also.

4) If you need a ride to the games in Seekonk, contact your captain ASAP.

WEDNESDAY JULY 5

Gold vs. White - Moses Brown tennis Courts
Berry Red vs. Pine - Wheeler Field # 4 - (Field Hockey)
Key Lime vs. Denim - Wheeler Field #5 (Baseball Diamond field closer to road)
Purple vs. Black - Wheeler Field #6 (Baseball Diamond field away from road)

(Directions are at the bottom of this post)

On to the games:

Black 17 Pine 16

(By Loring of Black)

Both teams had a fair number of subs, but black was missing some of their
major speed in Kirk Kaczor and Dave Gondek, which was a factor against the
fast and hard running Pine team. The first half was very close, with the
half at 9-8 (pine). Then - pine up 13-11, pine up 16-15, black ties it at
16, next goal wins.

The last point went back and forth - each team got within 10-15 yards of the
opposing goal line at least twice. Then Black turned it over on the sideline,
about 15 yards away from their own goal - pine was 15 yards away from a score
and the win. Pine took a timeout, and it seemed that all would be lost for
Black, but Black's trap worked well - Kevin Nagle of Black ran by his man and
made a huge D block. Black again worked it down the field, and Moses hucked
to Kevin in the endzone. The throw went over his
head, and it looked like another turnover. But Greg Altimas appeared from
nowhere and made a huge, diving layout for the score and the win.

(Captain Moses of Black adds on)

Pine is a really great team: hard running, exciting deep game. They've lost
a couple close ones now, but I promise they'll be in the running. Vette
played very well for them, but I was most impressed by their women. I think
there was one named Sarah who really hurt us: great hands, cuts on target,
always hustling on D, a couple of fingertip catches. (Sara Towne is her
name).

Some highlights included:

Big Tom McCollum getting open for at least 3 deep strikes from me for the
goal and chuckling like a madman after catching them

Greg Altimas making 2 VERY exciting plays: a fracking sweet layout block
around his man on a cut back to the disc, and the final catch. The throw
was, in spite of what Loring says, to him, not Kevin...just wanted to save
some face.

Kevin Nagle, new player extraordinairre, making a sweet sliding catch in the
end zone on a long huck from me, and having both teams calling it a goal from
the sideline...and calling the disc down without a second thought. It was
absolutely fantastic: nobody would have debated the call if he has called it
a goal, and he was probably the only one who could have known it'd hit the
ground.

The triumphant return of Paola Perez, our top women's pick, from an ankle
injury. We are considering a name change to the Mighty Morphin' Paola
Rangers.

I think the standouts from our team were: Sarah Cook, who had another very
dependable and solid game, Maureen Fitzgerald, who is a totally new player
but is making great cuts, solid dump passes, and has a great sense of field
space, Kevin Nagle for all the reasons previously mentioned (that block on
game point was HUGE), and Greg. But it was really a team effort.

RIPUL Ultimate: catch the excitement.

White 17 Key Lime 8

I don't know any of the highlights sorry, just the score.

Purple 16 Berry Red 14
(From Dr. Bill Binder of Purple)

Berry played an awesome game with June Park and Megan Spyres, two of the
women on berry accounting for many points. June made a true ultimate
highlight grab---- a one handed layout in the endzone on a deep toss by Flip.
The game started out with a quick 4-1 lead by Purple. Berry played hard and
swift with Pranay,
Flip, and a couple of the other guys on their team moving the disc fast.
Purple answered each of Berry's points, with Mike Schein shining with
multiple hucks and true handling acumen. Purple was up at the half 9 -6.
After the half Berry played well-Matt Grund handling with devastating left
handed accuracy. The
score got to 11-10, and it was neck and neck. Purple got a couple of huge
points. Steve ( a newbie) caught a short pass in a crowded endzone for a
score and Karen Binder scored on two separate occasions---one a give and go
pass from me, and another on a long huck from someone. This last pass took
the score to 15-13 and purple eventually ended up on top in a soft cap 16
-14. It was a good game with a great berry cheer at the end a la Hendrix.

Gold 17 Denim 11

This game was relatively close in the first half and Gold took a 9-7 lead at
half.
Kara D'Avanzo was huge all night on O for Gold, highlighted by a grab for the
score with Tim McBride right on her back. Denim challenged early in the 2nd
half and pulled to within 9-8 and then 10-9. Mike Dussault threw me a
curving backhand that I was able to adjust to and make a 1-handed layout snag
for an 11-9 lead. Gold then turned up the defensive pressure lead by Eric
McAndrew , who almost always matches up against the other team's best guy.
Gold went up 15-10 and then the teams traded points until Kara was able to
finish off the game with another score.
