People:

The season is quickly winding down so now is as good a time as any to start
generating feedback from people regarding RIPUL such as:

* The schedule - too many games or not enough?
* Spirit - any problems?
* Captains - did they involve you in the action, did you get enough play
time, anything good or bad about them
* Level of Play - too competitive? not enough?
* Improvement - did your skills improve
* Anything else you care to share

Also, I would like feedback on playing at Wheeler. There is a definite
possibility that next year ALL games will be out there. Is that a problem?
Would that make you less likely, more likely, or make no difference in
deciding whether to play RIPUL next summer?

As for next Saturday's tourney at Wheeler, expect to be out there all day 1st
game starting at 11:00 AM so be there by 10:30 or so.

We will divide the teams into 2 pools of 4 based on the regular season
standings. Pool A will be teams 1,4,5,8 and Pool B will be teams 2,3,6,7.
Every team will play 3 pool play games to 13, hard cap at 15, (1 timeout/half
and a floater). The winner of the A and B pool will play in the Finals in a
game to 15 or 17 (to be decided by the captains and myself) while everybody
else gets to munch out on whatever food Dave Toohey will prepare for us.
There will be no beer provided (sorry, Wheeler doesnt allow us). We will
provide bagels and bananas and will have igloo containers on each field so
bring water bottles to fill up.

After finals, we will have an awards ceremony where we will present the
following awards:

Male and Female "Toby" award winners for the top player who best exemplifies
the ideals of RIPUL
Male and Female Most Improved Player
Individual Trophys to each member of the Championship team

MONDAY AUGUST 7 GAMES:

Key Lime v. Denim - Moses Brown
Purple v. Black - Wheeler
Gold v. White - Wheeler
Berry Red v. Pine - Wheeler

On to the action from last night:

Gold 17 Denim 13

(by Captain Chia of Denim)

Denim again started out strong with a 4-1 and then 6-2 lead, but Gold
shorthanded (which they are used to) clamped on a zone and took half 9-8.
Brian Sheehan was
tenacious on the Deep D. as his mind would wander and dreams of Guinnesses
danced in his head (he and his wife Cara of Gold are going to Ireland this
weekend) and drool fell from his mouth. While on the opposite side of the
field Scotty Wiant played some curious D. as Cara scored on a big deep play.
Scott must have been preoccupied with having his first beer ever, at Olivers
later that night, I guess, he just turned 21, news report is that he had
about a half a keg last night. On a serious note, Denim did play quite
strong and but had some trouble with the Zone D. and was only able to break
it a few times. Some great plays by Chris Horn where he pulled down some
Toohey hucks.

PURPLE 13 Berry Red 12

(by Captain Fred of Purple)

The first half was back and forth and taking a long time. Game was called to
15. Purple had no subs and forced to play zone D for the entire game. Not to
worry though since that is the team's strength. Half ended with Red on top
8-6. However, near the end of the half, Red's Pranay went down with a rolled
ankle. He was out for the game and severely impacted Berry Red's offense.
The second half opened up with Purple scoring 5 unanswered points putting
the score at 8-11. However, Red came right back scoring 4 out of the next
six points tying the game at 12. Due to darkness the game was capped at 13.
Back and forth went the point with players concentrating on avoiding
collisions as much as winning. A series of turnovers occurred and the last
happened close to the Red endzone. Purple pushed it in and finished the dark
game on top 12-13. Hats off to Berry Red for hard fought games with the most
spirit. Fouls were called and accepted without argument; hands shook; and the
play was intense. Thanks red and we'll see you in the playoffs. Thanks to
Mike Schein for carrying the team with leadership on the field. Here's to
Joanne Hsu and Stephen Richard, two beginners who played the whole game w/o
subs.

WHITE 17 KEY LIME 7

(by Captain Olivier of White)

White defeated Key Lime 17-7. Scott Martin and Thea played great for lime,
as usual. Libby was a force on both O and D. White really hit its stride in
this game though, playing hot man D and moving the disc well against lime's
zone D. Lucky was unstoppable, and Allen Bonner metamorphosed into a
thrower, with several key hucks.

BLACK 17 PINE 9

(by Loring of Black)

Half at 9-2 black, green went on a 7 point run to make it 9-9, black went on
a 8 point run to win the game.

Green was missing both Michael Franz (major ankle problems) and Evan Pierce
(hamstring problems), and black had more subs than they had in a while. This
was the last game this season for our co-captain Moses Rifkin - he's off to a
little tournament in Germany...

STANDINGS:

Gold 10-1
Purple 9-2
White 8-3
Denim 5-6
Black 5-6
Pine 3-8
Key Lime 3-8
Berry Red 1-10
