White Vs. Green Corey Oh my lord, what a game. I can scantly believe it happened. The day started poorly. We were getting stuck on the fundamentals. Discs were dropped and throws wasted. White was all around out hustling us. We weren't coming to the disc. The stack was as clogged as a warm summer night in Newport. White's stack was nice and neat. Their hucks more devastating then a nuclear blast. It hurt I tell yeah. I scored the only point in the first half for green and I still wasn't smiling. All in all the entire first half went quick. I actually think we had one point at the end that was longer then that first half. Like two feet of snow over grass white smothered us. They took half at 9-1. Ouch. I think that's a summer league first. To make matters worse white had a trumpet and where using it to great effect. Colin was mystified and enraged. ( Well as enraged as Colin ever gets.) I was left speechless at the half. Scott's inspirational speech at half went something like this. Well ... It doesn't look good. We need to loosen up and have some fun. He shook the team to loosen us up. A quick cheer to duct tape and we were off. Smiles returned and hope was restored. The details are real hazy as to who scored when because frankly I didn't think it was going to matter much at the time. The Screaming Greens played every point like it was their last because let's be honest it didn't look like it was going to be take that long to beat us. We were heading up to be the first team to be at Oliver's before 7:00 pm. Every person gave 110 % a total team effort the likes of which I never believed possible. Watch out everyone the green team has some serious heart. The Screaming Green D was pulling us out of the huge hole we dug for ourselves. If we stood on our toes we could just peek our head out of that hole. Even with our crazy Screaming Green D we couldn't shut white down and we kept trading points and that was something we could ill afford at this point. The greens close the gap to 11-8. That's where I picked up the score again. White rallies to try to put the nails in the coffin and brings the score to 15-10 white. At this point we could see that white was tired but so were we. Two points. They only needed 2 points. We needed 7. With couple of powerful lines and chilly playing the Green Machine plowed back some of the snow bringing the score to 15's. The green line was in an uproar. No longer feeling the weight of our shackles of exhaustion as much we were able to punch one more in after a hell point to end all hell points. It was easily a 20-minute point. It felt like an eternity. I watched the disc hucked from one side of the field to the next and back again more times then I care to mention. Tempers started to flare which stemmed from the effort everyone on the field was producing. The hell point ended with a score for green 16-15. Fresh subs were put in and white scores another quickly with a sweet pass to Scott Martin. Sixteen all. The tension was palpable. I couldn't watch and simultaneously couldn't rip my eyes away. Vet put a nice throw to Kevin who made the sweetest layout grab. The Greens went nuts 17-16 Screaming Greens. Cheers were delivered and the green can-can line needs work.. We couldn't lift our legs , go figure. Oh, for the first time the Screaming Greens held the most dominating participation at Oliver's. It's very important. The Screaming Greens want to thank the burgundy team for leaving early to make this possible. Kudos to white and green for the tremendous effort displayed and a game I won't soon forget.
