Monday 7/22 White 17 Denim 10 Denim was missing some key players including co-captain Amy Greer (out for the season with a knee injury) and Dartmouth's Max Crossley. Meera Shah, Rich "Chia" Lucia, and Scott Mathieu were a very solid handling core for Denim. White again barely had 7 by game time, but was bolstered by the return of captains June Park and Jeff Fleischaker (injured in two weeks ago in Montreal). White was missing most of its height-- Justin, Bobbers, Kira (injured helping her team to a semifinal finish at Purchase Cup), Aaron, and Tim-- but adjusted with speed and good flow. Breakmark throws from White's handlers, especially Dave Buckingham, kept the O moving. Eric Weiss had a big game on O and D even while struggling with painful back problems. Injured Andre Beskrowni was again on hand to cheer his team on (we're hoping to have him back in time for the playoffs). Physically, we're a wreck, but damn, I love this team! Denim's defense was especially tough in the red zone, getting numerous Ds after White had confidently moved 50-60 yards. Denim got great play from David Vavasseur who had a number of big catches and defensive plays. A huck from Fly to me up the sideline floated just a bit and Dave made up the ground, swatting the disc away just as my hand closed on it, but before I stopped the spin-- great D! Player of the game for Denim was Alan "Lucky" Lepre, who got several blocks by poaching onto receivers who looked wide open. Spirit was extremely high as both teams played with sportsmanship and respect for their opponents. Both White and Denim reached new lows with lame cheers but fudgecicles provided by White were a big hit. I call for ice cream to replace cheering whenever the temperature/humidity index reaches a predetermined level. Who's with me?
