White beat Black 17-8.
White came out firing in the first half with some feisty D, some solid,
patient O and remarkably few turns for a brand new team playing it's
first half of the season. Black, meanwhile, had trouble finding its
rhythm early and found themselves in a 9-1 hole at the half. Nice
contributions from the whole white team in the first half, with special
props to Emily's laying-out, dragging-my-feet-inbounds catch for a score
that fired the whole squad up. Black righted the ship in the second
half and white started to tire with only 2 male subs. This resulted in
much more of a back and forth affair, but black needed to do more than
trade points, so white came away with a 17-8 win. Kudos to the black
women, who played savage virtually the entire game and displayed some
very nice handling savvy. Kudos as well to the white women, who did
some spiffy handling of their own and generally seemed to always be open
when we needed them. The youthful male white contingent seemed to make
one exciting, athletic play after another on both sides of the disc,
capped by a beautiful upwind Chris to Kareem hookup for a score and
Ricky's sky in traffic to end the game. Great game and fun start to the
ripul season!
