Red v. Black write up
On a swampy Wednesday afternoon the Black Mambas and Hot Damn! squared off on
Walker Street. The game started out as a back and forth affair, punctuated by
several of Dr. Bill Brown's trademark hucks to the speedy Mamba cutters. Chad
Johr responded with a big looping backhand huck of his own, to Lucky I think,
but Hot Damn! still found themselves down 9-6 at the half.
It seemed to Damn that a little zone D might help neutralize the Mambas potent
deep game, so the switch was made. Oh how wrong Hot Damn was. The calm
handling of Celinda, Kofron, and Greer slowly marched the Mambas up the field
and right in to the endzone, and suddenly it was 12-8.
After a marginal-at-best rendition of Spinal Tap's "When we need that little
extra to push over the cliff, we turn it up to 11" Hot Damn's D dug down deep
and fought back to 16-14, and then got two more to make it universe point.
However, Hot Damn! couldn't capitalize on a Mamba turn and Black took the game
17-16.
A well played game by both teams.
